Having a baby in the NICU can be stressful for the entire family. Parents experience a rollercoaster of emotions, and it's understandable that relationships will be impacted. Additionally, a parent will also be concerned about their partner's well being. Today we're sharing a new checklist we created for parents who are looking for ways to support their partner after a traumatic birth and during a NICU stay. Then keep reading to learn about an incredible young girl who is using her platform to pay it forward and a link to the webinar we conducted with Dr. Browns® earlier this year.
How to Support Your Partner During a NICU Stay
A NICU stay places added pressure on relationships. Here's how you can support your partner and strengthen the foundation of your relationship so the strength endures during your stay and after you come home.
Virtual support groups and resources, such as podcasts, private Facebook groups and our peer mentor program, allow families to access the support they need from the safety and comfort of their own homes.
For her 10th birthday on May 29th, NICU graduate Eliza Wingate decided to pay it forward by starting a Facebook fundraiser for Hand to Hold in honor of her twin sister and little brother. Within hours, Eliza had reached her goal of $1000, so she increased her goal and ended up raising $1,445! Way to go, Eliza and team! Thank you so much for rallying your community, and thank you to all who donated!
"Hand to Hold helped to maintain my mental health so much. I don’t know if I would have been able to handle it as well if they and their Family Support Specialists had not been there for us."
